On Saturday, May 3, 2014, Attorney Humphrey was featured in the Newport Daily News because of his presentation of Law Day at the Florence K. Murray Judicial Complex on Friday, May 2, 2014. The Law Day presentation featured several speakers including District Court Judge Colleen Hastings, Attorney Kimberly A. Petta, Capital Police Officer Steven Viscoine and Attorney Robert H. Humphrey. The purpose of Law Day is to educate the citizens of the State of Rhode Island regarding judicial proceedings and the law. This Law Day presentation marks the tenth (10th) year that Mr. Browner's 7th grade students from Thompson Middle School have attended Law Day at the Newport courthouse. The Law Day presentation consisted of a description by Attorney Humphrey and Attorney Petta of the roles of the District Court, Family Court and Superior Court and the judicial proceedings in each. The students learned about felonies, misdemeanors and civil cases. In addition to a tour of the courthouse, the students were able to watch actual court proceedings in the District Court.
The Rhode Island Bar Association's Law Day has been a great success in the education of students regarding the judicial branch of government. Over the years, many students in attendance have expressed a renewed desire to have a career in the legal profession.
