URI Alcohol Party Bus

As reported by Andy Smith in the February 2, 2011 edition of the Providence Journal, the University of Rhode Island (URI) is opposing a proposed bus service from the URI campus to local bars in Narragansett. This proposed transportation would run on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights during the school year.

According to URI, its opposition to the program is one of safety concerns and the encouragement of underage drinking by university students. The owner of the bus service stated the service is designed "to keep potentially intoxicated drivers out of their cars." The bus service has already received approval from the State Division of Public Utilities and Carriers. URI is joined in its opposition by both the Towns of North Kingstown and South Kingstown.
