Bristol DUI and Drug Charges Dismissed

Recently, Bristol Police charges of DUI, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Operating a Motor Vehicle While in Possession of a Controlled Substance Charge were dismissed against our Client before the Sixth Division District Court in Providence, Rhode Island. Previously, the Chemical Test Refusal charge and Laned Roadway violation pending against our Client before the Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal were dismissed. The charges before both the Sixth Division District Court and the Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal were the result of the Bristol Police stopping our Client's motor vehicle. Initially, the Bristol Police officer observed our Client allegedly committing traffic violations in the Town of Bristol. The Bristol Police officer followed our Client over the Mount Hope Bridge into the Town of Portsmouth where he conducted the motor vehicle stop.

The charges pending against our Client both before the Sixth Division District Court and the Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal were dismissed based on our argument that our Client was unlawfully stopped and arrested by the Bristol Police Department in the Town of Portsmouth due to the lack of jurisdiction.

If you or a family member has been charged with drunk driving or refusal to submit to a chemical test, please contact attorney Robert H. Humphrey.
