Rhode Island Marijuana Bill Introduced

As reported by Katherine Gregg in the January 19, 2011 edition of the Providence Journal, a new bill to decriminalize marijuana has been introduced to the Rhode Island General Assembly.  A representative has proposed decriminalizing possession of marijuana of less than one ounce.  Instead of a criminal charge, it would be considered a civil violation and punishable by a $150.00.

Under current Rhode Island Law 21-28-4.01, the penalties for possession of marijuana include a controlled substance classified in schedule I as marijuana is guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction may be imprisoned for not more than one year or fined not less than two hundred dollars ($200) nor more than five hundred dollars ($500), or both.

If you or a family member have been charged with possession of cocainepossession of marijuana or other drug related offenses, please allow  Attorney Robert H. Humphrey's reputation, experience and skill to successfully guide you through the legal process.   Contact Robert H. Humphrey at 401-816-5862 or e-mail him at rhh@rhumphreylaw.com.
