Drinking at URI Concert
As reported by Tatiana Pina in the October 14, 2010 edition of the Providence Journal, URI officials were busy following a campus concert on Tuesday night. Medical personnel treated eighteen (18) people at the concert and an additional sixteen (16) students around the campus. Nearly all of the thirty-four (34) people treated required medical attention due to alcohol consumption. Only two (2) were treated for minor injuries.
Of the thirty-four (34) students needing medical attention, eleven (11) had to be transported to nearby hospitals for additional medical treatment. According to URI, there was no alcohol served at the Ryan Center, where the concert was held. It is unclear, how many students, if any, are under twenty-one (21) years of age and if so, whether they will face any charges for underage drinking.
